Emotions, by influencing cognitive processes such as attention, memory, and motivation, play a crucial role in academic performance. This study investigates how positive and negative emotional states can impact learning and performance, taking into account task difficulty and differences between typically developing children and those with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD). Participants were asked to perform two experimental tasks of varying difficulty under positive and negative emotional states. The results indicate that in tasks requiring greater cognitive effort, positive emotions seem to promote better performance in both typically developing children and children with SLD.
