This paper focuses on the support measures (scaffolding devices) used by adult interlocutors in L2 narrative sequences of children aged three to six. For the narrative analysis, the paper draws on the principle of inter-active constructedness, according to which the interaction partners jointly perform various communicative tasks, and distinguishes two basic types of scaffolding strategies: interrogative and reparative measures. Lan-guage data in the L2 German and Italian, collected in the Ladin valleys of South Tyrol, serve as the corpus basis. The data analysis shows that irrespective of the language used different scaffolding strategies are employed depending on the acquisitional stage (early vs. advanced), the children’s age and the interaction partners.
