This paper reports a misunderstanding in relating Young’s modulus to functionally graded porosity. A list of recently published references which are subjected to this oversimplification is presented. It is found out that this misunderstanding may cause undeniable errors in the mechanical responses in both static and dynamic loading conditions that here we quantified by implementing finite element analysis.

Abstract

This paper reports a misunderstanding in relating Young’s modulus to functionally graded porosity. A list of recently published references which are subjected to this oversimplification is presented. It is found out that this misunderstanding may cause undeniable errors in the mechanical responses in both static and dynamic loading conditions that here we quantified by implementing finite element analysis.
