We derive a version of the equation of geodesic deviation which describes how general fieds on nearby geodesics propagate along them. The equation we propose reduces to the usual one when the field to be propagated is the velocity vector field of a geodesic congruence. We write down the equation for the special cases of the angular momentum of a gyroscope in free fall and for the electromagnetic field in the geometric optic approximation.

Abstract
