In Italy, the «Settori scientifico-disciplinari» rule: a) the careers of professors; b) the evaluation of research; c) the didactic curricula; d) the forms of academic structures. Is this desirable? Does it really promote the advancement of knowledge? After having illustrated the genesis of the «Settori scientifico-disciplinari», this article highlights some of the problems caused by the disciplinary logic.
