High-strength poly(L-lactic acid) fibres were produced by dry spinning from chloroform solution or melt spinning. Fibres were characterised by viscometric molecular weight, thermal analysis and mechanical properties. Different sets of fibres were subjected to in vitro degradation in Ringer solution at 37°C for up to 16 weeks.
