A study on the inorganic-organic clusters of Zr as initiators of hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) polymerization was performed. The thermal treatment and ageing of a solution of Zr-(OPrn)4, HEMA and acetylacetone in a 1:4:0.55 molar ratio was described. A hybrid polymer, having a molar ratio HEMA/alkoxide equal to 4, was obtained as a monolith. A self-initiated polymerization of the hybrid zirconium clusters was proposed and the results indicated that self-initiation occurred after a ripening period.

Abstract
A study on the inorganic-organic clusters of Zr as initiators of hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) polymerization was performed. The thermal treatment and ageing of a solution of Zr-(OPrn)4, HEMA and acetylacetone in a 1:4:0.55 molar ratio was described. A hybrid polymer, having a molar ratio HEMA/alkoxide equal to 4, was obtained as a monolith. A self-initiated polymerization of the hybrid zirconium clusters was proposed and the results indicated that self-initiation occurred after a ripening period.File in questo prodotto:
