In this paper, the optimization of matching loads for lossy transmission lines is carried out by means of a suitable optimization strategy. Starting from a ladder network, which approximates the characteristic impedance of a given lossy transmission line with a limited number of lumped elements, the problem solution is obtained by minimizing a suitable cost function through an innovative particle-swarm-based method. The effectiveness of the synthesis approach is assessed in the case of a three-section ladder network through selected comparisons with experimentally measured data.
