The dynamical dipole polarizability and transition density for the deuteron are studied in the Bethe-Peierls model for deuteron photodisintegration. In two limiting values of the frequency of the oscillating field, the transition density is shown to have simple forms corresponding to pure surface and a mixing of surface and volume deformations respectively. Predictions for the low-q behaviour of the E1 form factor are given. A unitary transformation for the evaluation of the static polarizability in heavier nuclei is suggested.

Abstract
The dynamical dipole polarizability and transition density for the deuteron are studied in the Bethe-Peierls model for deuteron photodisintegration. In two limiting values of the frequency of the oscillating field, the transition density is shown to have simple forms corresponding to pure surface and a mixing of surface and volume deformations respectively. Predictions for the low-q behaviour of the E1 form factor are given. A unitary transformation for the evaluation of the static polarizability in heavier nuclei is suggested.File in questo prodotto:
