New generations are more and more exposed to economical fluctuations, as long-term positions in the labour market are gradually being replaced by atypical contracts. During these times of crisis young people experience more difficulty in entering in the labour market, and are offered precarious or temporary positions which do not easily lead to greater stability. It is then useful to address the different factors of segmentation and discontinuity in young people occupational careers, such as different motivations, different representations that underlie different strategies for facing instability-related risks, and different ways to cope with the transitions to adulthood. Unfortunately after the interruption of IARD scheme of repeated surveys this information is no longer coherent and systematic, therefore the real impact of job insecurity on daily life, on existential aspiration and on the processes of self-definition are largely to be investigated.
