LISA Pathfinder is a space mission launched in 2015 to test key technologies developed to detect gravitational waves. A critical component of LPF was the Grabbing, Positioning, and Release Mechanism (GPRM), which was responsible for releasing the mission sensing body into free-fall. Even if LPF was an overall success, some anomalies occurred during the sensing body release, prompting a thorough investigation. The investigation results have driven the development of a revised GPRM to mitigate issues and meet the mission requirements. This abstract summarizes the key outcomes of the LPF analysis and outlines the progress and results in the GPRM delta-development, including work on the Breadboard Model and future plans for the Engineering Model.
