The architecture of The Lord of the Rings is built not only on the highly elaborate narrative project (storyline and plot, characterization and setting), but also on the densely rich meta- language of novelistic discourse which possesses its own musicality, resulting from the skillful combination of different rhetorical tools. In this essay, the Author focuses on repetition, postulating that the extensive use of iterative elements and structures (interlinking between chapters, syntactic sequences, euphonic vocabulary) gives Tolkien’s writing an enchanting charm which is regularly lost in translation.

Abstract
The architecture of The Lord of the Rings is built not only on the highly elaborate narrative project (storyline and plot, characterization and setting), but also on the densely rich meta- language of novelistic discourse which possesses its own musicality, resulting from the skillful combination of different rhetorical tools. In this essay, the Author focuses on repetition, postulating that the extensive use of iterative elements and structures (interlinking between chapters, syntactic sequences, euphonic vocabulary) gives Tolkien’s writing an enchanting charm which is regularly lost in translation.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione
