Digital trade unionism in the making? Insights from the Italian experience

Digitalisation is transforming the workplace, leading to greater fragmentation and the merging of physical and digital environments.This paper explores digital trade unionism as a strategy to address these challenges through a comprehensive analysis of the three historically most representative trade unions in Italy: CGIL, CISL, and UIL. It examines the digital initiatives implemented both inside and outside the workplace, emphasising the role of collective bargaining in establishing digital rights. Furthermore, the paper highlights the growing use of digital communication tools to shape and represent collective interests.
