Following the discovery of five new manuscripts of a sermo by Hildemar, a Benedictine monk from Civate († c. 850), it is now possible to propose a new critical edition of the text, which was first published in 1979 based on a single witness. The new manuscripts contain previously unedited sections; certain inconsistencies in the text suggest that the sermo is not the work of Hildemar himself, but rather a transcription of his teachings by one of his students or secretaries. The importance of the legacy of the Fathers, particularly Cassian and Gregory the Great, in Hildemar’s teachings is also emphasized.

Abstract
Following the discovery of five new manuscripts of a sermo by Hildemar, a Benedictine monk from Civate († c. 850), it is now possible to propose a new critical edition of the text, which was first published in 1979 based on a single witness. The new manuscripts contain previously unedited sections; certain inconsistencies in the text suggest that the sermo is not the work of Hildemar himself, but rather a transcription of his teachings by one of his students or secretaries. The importance of the legacy of the Fathers, particularly Cassian and Gregory the Great, in Hildemar’s teachings is also emphasized.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
