At the end of his six books of the Praeloquia, Ratherius of Verona claims that he intends to offer the reader a text by Augustine, de utilitate vigiliarum, but in the only extant manuscript this text was not transcribed. Since none of Augustine's works seems to fit in with the description and the context given by Ratherius, in the present paper the author intends to put forward a proposal according to which de utilitate vigiliarum should be identified with a brief treatise by Nicetas of Remesiana, De vigiliis, which a part of the tradition includes among Augustine's works and is explicitly attributed to Augustine in the manuscript Milano, Biblioteca Ambrosiana M 55 sup.

Abstract
At the end of his six books of the Praeloquia, Ratherius of Verona claims that he intends to offer the reader a text by Augustine, de utilitate vigiliarum, but in the only extant manuscript this text was not transcribed. Since none of Augustine's works seems to fit in with the description and the context given by Ratherius, in the present paper the author intends to put forward a proposal according to which de utilitate vigiliarum should be identified with a brief treatise by Nicetas of Remesiana, De vigiliis, which a part of the tradition includes among Augustine's works and is explicitly attributed to Augustine in the manuscript Milano, Biblioteca Ambrosiana M 55 sup.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione
