Abstract. Storytelling in French, Spanish and Italian: what strategies to propose to French as a foreign language learners? Based on ecological narratives collected in situ in different interactions, this paper presents their main characteristics and how they can be identified by a learner of French. As the storytelling emerges in the course of the interaction, whether professional or private, the learner needs to understand when the speaker leaves the present situation to report an earlier event, and when this storytelling ends to return to the present. We will explore storytelling in two other Romance languages, Spanish and Italian, in order to draw out, from the similarities and differences observed, strategies applicable to the teaching of oral expression in French as a foreign language (FFL).
