This paper aims to explore the socio-political context in which were shaping the first urban structures in Biscay. It is focused on the analysis of two of the most sifnificant towns in that area, such as Orduña and Bilbao, making a new view about the dialectical links between urban centres and their rural hinterland in Biscay.
