Energy and mass balances are presented for a case study. Results demonstrate that the energy recoverable can cover a part of the heat necessary for the treatment of the sludge generated from the population served by the composting plant (in terms of food waste and green waste collection). Results are confirmed by sililar case studies. The addition of a renewable source as solar energy can cover the entire need. The approach is presented in details in order to allow its replication to other case studies.
