This article aims to examine the judgment delivered by the Court of Justice of the European Union on 26 February 2019, whereby «organic farming» labels may not be placed on products from animals that have been subject to religious slaughter without previous stunning. This analysis takes into account a wider context, characterized by a heated debate on religious slaughter itself and an ambiguous notion of animal welfare.
