The hot deformation behavior of an aluminum alloy containing 20 % silicon, 5 % iron, and 2 % nickel produced by spray forming has been investigated through hot compression tests. Tests were carried out at 400°C, 450°C, and 500°C and 2 strain rates (0.25 and 1 s−1). It was found that, under the deformation conditions applied, stress–strain curves were characterized by a distinct stress peak or a multipeaks trend indicating the occurrence of dynamic recrystallization (DRX). Microstructural observations, together with X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, also indicated a change in the type of intermetallics during hot deformation, with a reduction of δ-Al4FeSi2 and a corresponding increase of the stable β-Al5FeSi phase.

Abstract
The hot deformation behavior of an aluminum alloy containing 20 % silicon, 5 % iron, and 2 % nickel produced by spray forming has been investigated through hot compression tests. Tests were carried out at 400°C, 450°C, and 500°C and 2 strain rates (0.25 and 1 s−1). It was found that, under the deformation conditions applied, stress–strain curves were characterized by a distinct stress peak or a multipeaks trend indicating the occurrence of dynamic recrystallization (DRX). Microstructural observations, together with X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, also indicated a change in the type of intermetallics during hot deformation, with a reduction of δ-Al4FeSi2 and a corresponding increase of the stable β-Al5FeSi phase.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione
