¿Minorías o confesiones religiosas? El ordenamiento italiano entre secularización y la libertad religiosa

This contribution focuses on the «state of health» of religious freedom, especially with regard to the protection of religious denominations in Italy, in the current context of multicultural society characterizing it. Section 1 will briefly introduce the notion of religious freedom. Section 2 will deal broadly with the multicultural nature of Italian society and then will focus on the various declinations of religious freedom, meant as a number of rights guaranteed to religious minorities. Section 3 will take into account the lack of definition of what a religious minority is, which increases the problems in identifying in what exactly religious freedom, in its individual and collective dimension, consists. Section 4 reaches the not-so-reassuring conclusion that it is necessary to provide education in «culture of religious freedom», in order to change the political direction and end the lawmaker’s inaction.
