A high-purity alumina powder with sub-micrometer grain size was doped with 500 ppm of MgO by mixture with a magnesium nitrate water solution. The grain size distribution was determined by the linear intercept method. Vickers hardness was measured at loads ranging from 9.8-200 N, while Young's modulus and fracture toughness were obtained by four-point bending tests between 273 and 1473 K.

Abstract
