A new generation of design methodologies, is necessary to allow the use of phased array technology in the near future radar and telecommunication systems. This work presents a review of the state of art approaches, including the recent advancement in the design of unconventional architectures and simplified antenna array solutions. An illustrative numerical result is reported as an example of the reviewed approaches.
