Appunti su alcuni profili tematici nelle traduzioni italiane di Tolkien

This paper initially focuses on the concept, process and value of re-translation about which it aims to address some hard-to-die false beliefs in the attempt to better understand and question the criticism met by the new Italian translation of The Lord of The Rings even before being published. In the second part of the paper, semiotic tools are introduced and stylistic remarks are made about the Italian translations of Tolkien’s works in order to point out the technical difficulties translators have to face when dealing with such philologically rigorous and yet meandering, mythopoetic writings.
