Romano Guardini’s essay "The religious World of Dostoevsky. Studies on the faith", written between the second half of the 1920s and the end of the 1930s has, meanwhile, been translated into many languages. More than fifty years after the first publication of the work, the edition also in the Russian language was published between 1992 and 1994 in a small journal on Russian emigration, "Golos zarub’ežija" ("The voice from abroad"), and then, in 1994, in a volume by the publishing house Žizn’ s bogom (La Vie avec Dieu) in Brussels. In this paper, the particular circumstances which led to the translation of Guardini’s essay into Russian are explained. At the same time, the background to the response to the work which, in the meantime, had aroused significant interest also in Russia, is outlined. For this purpose, it has been decided to provide a brief overview of the features of the hermeneutics adopted by the Italian-German philosopher in the context of the studies on Dostoevsky at the beginning of the 1900s and of the Dostoevskian analyses of our period, in an attempt to understand the significance that the religious element has in Russian literature and criticism today. Lastly, in the appendix to this paper, there is a detailed list of the works by Romano Guardini that have, so far, been translated into Russian.
