Le scienze politiche e sociali nell'ordinamento universitario italiano (anni quaranta-sessanta)

The essay discusses the complicated events that led up to the reform and introduction of the political and social sciences into the Italian university system after the II World War. The two disciplines, despite being opposed in the same way by the hegemonic culture of idealism, started from very different positions: the political sciences had to reconcile with the past, namely with the manipulation by the fascist regime, while the social sciences tried to respond more effectively to the challenges of modernization of the country. If initially the reform proposals of social and political studies went all to the direction of a new and unique Faculty of political and social sciences, at the end of the story prevailed the reasons for the disciplinary specialization with the reform of the old Faculty of political sciences (so called Maranini-Miglio from the names of the two proponents, the Deans of the faculties of Florence and Catholic University of Milan) and with the establishment of the new Institute of social sciences of Trento, destined to become the first Faculty of sociology in Italy.
