El creciente papel de las mujeres en los gobiernos locales del sudeste de Turquía y su influencia en el debate sobre paridad a nivel nacional // The increasing role of women in the local governments of Turkey's Southeast and its influence on the national debate over parity

In the last municipal elections held in Turkey in March 2014, a record number of women were elected both as mayors and councilors at the town halls. This is largely the result of a gender-based co-leadership structure implemented by the pro-Kurdish party HDP in all internal and institutional positions. The present article analyzes, from the perspective of contentious politics and the politics of scale, whether the emergence of women co-mayors in southeast Turkey has successfully introduced in the national political agenda the debate on taking concrete measures in order to reach a gender parity of representation.
