In this article, we propose to identify strategies to teach “linguistic norms” used in three contemporary fictionalized essays that relate to “high” autobiographical experiences of school teachers: Chagrin d’école by Daniel Pennac, Entre les murs by François Bégaudeau and Flaubert est un blaireau by Alain Chopin. These texts present difficult school situations where reflections on good speech and good writing are thematized throughout the narrative by three teachers of French language and literature and their students. What “linguistic norms” do they seek to convey in classrooms in their daily practices of teaching French and what strategies do they adopt? How do they succeed?

Abstract

In this article, we propose to identify strategies to teach “linguistic norms” used in three contemporary fictionalized essays that relate to “high” autobiographical experiences of school teachers: Chagrin d’école by Daniel Pennac, Entre les murs by François Bégaudeau and Flaubert est un blaireau by Alain Chopin. These texts present difficult school situations where reflections on good speech and good writing are thematized throughout the narrative by three teachers of French language and literature and their students.
