The article re-elaborates elements that have emerged during the research I conducted to complete the thesis entitled Fragments of Medieval Manuscripts in the State Archive of Trento: Census and Description, which I presented in the academic year 2009-2010. The study is a work in progress and an important part of the census that is being carried out to catalogue the fragmented manuscripts of the province of Trento. The final goal of this project is to provide a description of the codes belonging to all the medieval manuscripts that are preserved in the “Acts of the Notaries” fund at the State Archive in Trento. More than 270 fragments belonging to the fund have been surveyed; they can be dated between the 10th and 15th century and include fragments of liturgical, biblical, law, patristic, medical, hagiographic, scholastic and philosophical texts. Sixty fragments have been described so far in the on-line catalogue “ManusOnline” (http://manus.iccu.sbn.it). The cataloguing and valorisation of this patrimony in fragments is a concrete contribution to the delineation of a more complete picture regarding the circulation of codes in Trentino and is of interest to the codicological, paleographical, musical, philological and historical sector.
