Airports are an architectural structure with a specific urban function but, at the same time, it is a landscape: in most cases are devoid of physical and spatial integration with their context. This situation generates the emblematic role for these structures and places. The conflict between their fundamental role within the urban structure, the oppressive impact that they generate on the surrounding landscapes, their potential role as attractors and/or generators of local economies, all this gives to airports an ambivalent but relevant role in the development of contemporary landscapes.

Abstract
Airports are an architectural structure with a specific urban function but, at the same time, it is a landscape: in most cases are devoid of physical and spatial integration with their context. This situation generates the emblematic role for these structures and places. The conflict between their fundamental role within the urban structure, the oppressive impact that they generate on the surrounding landscapes, their potential role as attractors and/or generators of local economies, all this gives to airports an ambivalent but relevant role in the development of contemporary landscapes.File in questo prodotto:
