Ezra Pound’s interest in medieval literature dates back to the years 1904-1905, when, after enrolling at Hamilton College in Clinton (New York), he attended the courses of William Pierce Shepard (1870-1948), professor of Romance languages. In the present article Carlo Pulsoni and Roberta Capelli present two new bio-bibliographical records in the framework of Pound’s philological training. Gathering from libraries and archives first-hand information and documentary data related to the composition of the troubadouresque poem 'From Syria' (Personae, 1909) and to the edition of Guido Cavalcanti’s poetry (Guido Cavalcanti Rime. Edizione rappezzata fra le rovine, Genova, Marsano, 1931-IX), the authors demonstrate the methodological importance of preparatory work behind Pound’s creative practice.
