Pedro Antonio de Alarcón y "De Madrid a Nápoles": análisis de variantes textuales

In the period between 1861, the year in which the travelogue "De Madrid a Nápoles" was first published, and 1886, when the third and final revision of this text was carried out, Alarcon’s ideology was influenced by the vicissitudes of Spain’s political situation. This study takes into account additions, omissions and variant readings that emerge from a comparison between the three editions (although limiting this analysis to Book 1, in which Paris under the French Second Empire is described). In most cases these variants were the result of Alarcon’s stylistic awareness, but were also a consequence of his increasingly rigid ideology that was to isolate the author in a radical conservative position.
