While appearances are the initial direct information present to us in visual space, they are not stimuli understood as ‘primary’ properties of physical entities. Appearances are the focus of experimental phenomenology. Of what are appearances made? Are they primary, secondary or tertiary qualities? Is it possible to develop a proper analysis, methodology and metrics of appearances? The chapter provides an introduction to the study of appearances.
