In this paper, a novel method for optimum video camera positioning is presented, which maximizes visual coverage in complex indoor environments. Based on a suitable modeling of the camera field-of-view and of the environmental setup, the optimization procedure determines the most appropriate configuration of the sensors to satisfy a coverage target. The final configuration is achieved through the particle swarm optimizer (PSO). The proposed solution has been validated in different setups, taking into account the presence of obstacles, as well as various global and target coverage objectives. Results are provided for different configurations or real environments. © 2012 ACM.

Abstract
In this paper, a novel method for optimum video camera positioning is presented, which maximizes visual coverage in complex indoor environments. Based on a suitable modeling of the camera field-of-view and of the environmental setup, the optimization procedure determines the most appropriate configuration of the sensors to satisfy a coverage target. The final configuration is achieved through the particle swarm optimizer (PSO). The proposed solution has been validated in different setups, taking into account the presence of obstacles, as well as various global and target coverage objectives. Results are provided for different configurations or real environments. © 2012 ACM.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione
