During the last decade ‘low-cost airports’ have begun to physically and socially affect the European territory. Starting from case studies, this research analyzes landscape changes in the areas immediately around secondary airports, as well as infrastructural network developments on a larger scale. This English preview edition contains the following articles: “Introduction: Around Europe on 80 Euros” and “Low-cost Airport Taxonomy”. The study is the result of Ph.D. research completed at the Doctoral School in Urbanism of Venice University (IUAV), which has been coordinated by Prof. Bernardo Secchi, Professor of Urbanism at Venice University (IUAV). The draft of the research work has been supervised by Mr. Giuseppe Rizzo, administrator at the Transport Department of the European Commission and has been peer-reviewed and discussed in December 2008 by a board of professors at Venice University (Istituto Universitario Architettura Venezia – IUAV), in particular Prof. Paola Viganò and Prof. Alberto Ferlenga. This English preview edition has been entirely reviewed by architect and writer Chris White.
