In this paper, we introduce the Emotional Intelligence Framework, EIF (Salovey et al., 2000) in order to evaluate the state of the art of emotionally adept technology. Our belief is that the EIF can usefully guide further development of affective computing, as it encompasses more than a focus upon superficial sensor-level interaction.
