Abstract

“Palamela” – Apple Palace project. - Conferences and Exhibitions Centre for the Valle di Non, Trento. The outline of "Palamela" building arises from morphology suggestion of that territory, marked by rows of apple trees where the espalier cultivation accentuates the outline of land ownership following precise guidelines, dictated by a combination of orographic criteria and a favourable sun exposure. The image you perceive is like an industrious and rational patchwork which is the landscape the architectural project compares with: a whole of geomorphologic figures - shaped lands in centuries of farming - and parallel lines which engraved them. Another system of signs try to fill together new buildings for the various activities of Palamela, to the agricultural land on which it will be built and it overlaps, without erasing this stratification of man-made tracks constructed with natural elements - earth and trees, both forced to an artificial landscape project. The contact line of every single building inside the “Palamela”, to the smooth slope of soil becomes a part of the plan, like geometric drawings of a carpet. The square general form of the weft doesn’t interfere directly with the floor but connect single building to the external landscape. At some points the soil comes to lap its undulations to the low page of the beams that seem to fly without gravity: quite all pillar disappear hidden within the undulations of the ground or inside the walls of internal buildings. Altitude resort at Mount Bondone The project is such a kind of split architecture, adapting buildings to the natural morphology to compose a new landscape and to ensure best sightseeing to all rooms. From the access way the resort is facing similar to an urban square front. From this point of view It shows up the main public facilities, open even to non-hotel guest: the auditorium, the first shape we meet, seems suspended almost to float above the pool -looking similar to a small mountain lake basin- derived in a hollow of the slope. The structures of this main building consist on laminated wood beams, and the coating surface is in natural wood. The second element facing, which completes the building front, is the restaurant, facing south to the square with large windows acting as solar collector. The roof of the restaurant is a large sheltered solarium that extends to the steep surface rising for free climbing. This ascent closes the front to the west side and is to function as a solar chimney to capture the thermal radiation, as well as visual appeal. Between the two volumes of the square is wedged the access porch to internal areas of the hotel, which leads guests to the reception and rooms. Production and conscious implementation of new landscapes is the aim of this landscape architectural design research, not only in terms of preservation and conservation. In fact, natural and human landscape characterizes cultural identity in alpine regions, but also from his aesthetic perception becomes significant economic resources trough tourism.
