This article deals with the importance of historical geography in development planning through the example of the project entitled “Cartography and boundaries of Trentino territory” in which the joint action of different territorial agents cooperate to solve ancient territorial disputes. In historical cartography of Trentino region boundaries represent a central and controversial issue, which is the subject of administrative disputes among confining territories. The project aims at geo-localizing these borders and at realizing an historical reconstruction based on the analysis of pre-cadastral and boundaries cartographical heritage. To do this, and therefore contribute to solve current controversies about borders, researchers will collect and analyse historical cartography stored in international and national archives. They will update these data through a systematic field work. As a result, a geobrowser will be created using different maps.
