The aim of this paper is to contribute, from a mainly economic point of view, to comprehension of these dynamics by examining the main problems and offering solutions for them. The following topics will be addressed: 1. the territorial dimension of production; 2. the relationship between the economic and political organization of space; 3. the relationship between the political organization of space and the ideological support that it requires; 4. the possible direction of reform of the nation-state.
