'Sounding English: Standard British English Pronunciation for Italian Learners' is designed primarily as a reference work explaining the social accent known as Received Pronunciation, usually abbreviated to RP, which corresponds to the accent adopted in the phonetic transcriptions and audio clips found in British dictionaries. Considerable attention is devoted both to sounds which are hard to produce for Italian speakers, and to instances where the spelling of a word can trigger errors of pronunciation – it is no secret that English orthography can be a poor guide to how words are pronounced. The intended beneficiaries are B2/C1 students of English Language at Italian universities and secondary schools.
