Faced with an uncertain future, water is now at the centre of the debate as a vital resource, but also as an economic and political resource that is still only marginally addressed by territorial cohesion policies. Specifically, mountain ecosystems are increasingly facing complex water management challenges between situations of flood risk, drought, but also economic policies related to its production. This reflection is developed through the research project "Branding4Resilience", which proposes an interdisciplinary, regenerative and adaptive methodological approach to enhance the resilience of communities in Italian inner territories. Integrating qualitative and quantitative methods, the natural character of the Val di Sole (from the Celtic water goddess Sulis) in Trentino Alto-Adige is first explored and mapped, encompassing ecological, spatial and social aspects; then, place-based co-design workshops have promoted strategic and collaborative branding actions to enhance the role of water as a territorial resource, promoting sustainable mobility and reinterpreting built heritage through community engagement. Ultimately, the Val di Sole Blueprint demonstrates how innovative design can use water as both a physical resource and a narrative tool to promote an equitable interdependence between people and nature, leading to reduced environmental impact and increased engagement with the landscape.
