This chapter explores the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and remote work, examining how the employment landscape is being remodelled by their convergence. It highlights the opportunities and challenges that arise from this intersection, stressing that they largely depend on how AI-driven remote work is implemented and regulated. Therefore, the chapter reviews various national and transnational legal responses, with particular attention to the right to disconnect. Although this right is mainly recognised for employees, the paper contends that similar protections should be extended to all remote workers, including vulnerable self-employed individuals. The concept of digital disconnection needs to be tailored to different roles and legal statuses to shield remote workers from the pervasive “always-on” work culture fostered by AI advancements.
