This article analyses the evidence relating to the bishops of Oderzo mentioned in written sources who are believed to have resided in the ancient Roman city. Most of the evidence dates from long after the bishops’ lives and presents considerable problems of interpretation. Archaeological evidence is very scarce and extremely incomplete. However, the overall picture suggests the importance and prestige of the ancient bishopric of Opitergium whose legacy was taken up, with different methods and pbjectives, first by Cittanova and then by Ceneda.
