The Opportunistic Sources Synthesis (OSS) methodology is presented as an innovative way to implement the Smart ElectroMagnetic Environment (SEME) paradigm in realistic urban scenarios. It focuses on properly engineering the primary source, such as the base station antenna, so that it becomes 'smart' and excites 'convenient' equivalent sources on the surrounding obstacles. The goal is to enhance, through such complex-but-controlled scattering phenomena, the wireless connectivity within specific Areas of Interest (AoIs), therefore opportunistically exploiting the environment for a better quality-of-service (QoS). A numerical example dealing with a real urban scenario demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed OSS technique.
