Earth observation is an important technology for sea state monitoring, including the measurement of surface roughness, winds, waves, internal waves, and ocean currents with Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). In lakes, satellite remote sensing has been primarily developed with optical and thermal sensors to monitor biogeophysical parameters. In this work, we describe the preliminary results achieved by using the very high resolution SAR data of the COSMO-SkyMed constellation for the surface current and wind field retrieval over Lake Garda in northern Italy.

Abstract
Earth observation is an important technology for sea state monitoring, including the measurement of surface roughness, winds, waves, internal waves, and ocean currents with Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). In lakes, satellite remote sensing has been primarily developed with optical and thermal sensors to monitor biogeophysical parameters. In this work, we describe the preliminary results achieved by using the very high resolution SAR data of the COSMO-SkyMed constellation for the surface current and wind field retrieval over Lake Garda in northern Italy.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
