In this chapter, we examine Italian ‘state feminism,’ focusing on the bureaucratic bodies responsible for equality and the development of gender equality policies. We trace the evolution of Italian state feminism, from its origins in the early days of democracy, through its often non-linear development, to the current landscape shaped by radical right-wing contestation of gender equality. Our analysis also delves into the gender composition of the public administration, highlighting the mismatch between the variety of measures adopted to promote gender equality and their actual effectiveness. In the conclusion, we address key challenges and issues that, in our view, require particular attention.

Abstract
In this chapter, we examine Italian ‘state feminism,’ focusing on the bureaucratic bodies responsible for equality and the development of gender equality policies. We trace the evolution of Italian state feminism, from its origins in the early days of democracy, through its often non-linear development, to the current landscape shaped by radical right-wing contestation of gender equality. Our analysis also delves into the gender composition of the public administration, highlighting the mismatch between the variety of measures adopted to promote gender equality and their actual effectiveness. In the conclusion, we address key challenges and issues that, in our view, require particular attention.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione
