This chapter analyzes the 2025 municipal elections in the Autonomous Province of Trento, focusing on gender representation and political equality. Despite a stable percentage of female candidates (38 percent for council positions and 17 percent for mayoral races), women remain underrepresented in executive roles, especially in larger municipalities. The study highlights the absence of institutional measures—such as gender quotas or dual-gender preference voting—that could foster a more balanced political representation. It also examines the ideological influence of right-wing parties, whose meritocratic rhetoric often masks structural barriers to gender equality. The analysis suggests that in Trentino, women's political participation is hindered by institutional inertia and cultural resistance, particularly within a conservative and pronatalist political framework. The chapter argues that genuine gender parity in local governance requires deliberate political choices and structural reforms, not merely individual merit or societal evolution.

Abstract
The chapter argues that genuine gender parity in local governance requires deliberate political choices and structural reforms, not merely individual merit or societal evolution.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione
