The concept of landscape, a complex entity composed of natural and built elements, has played a significant role in defining territorial identity, reflecting local history and culture. A comprehensive understanding of these elements is imperative for implementing balanced conservation and enhancement actions. However, historical cultural decisions have favoured certain elements, leading to disparities between robust and vulnerable elements, resulting in increased fragility and neglect of specific aspects of the landscape. It is evident that a reductive approach is no longer viable; it is necessary to formulate integrated strategies that will ensure the protection of the landscape in its entirety. In the case of the Sarca Valley, this disparity manifests itself with some elements devaluing others, creating injustices that must be addressed. A systematic understanding of landscape elements can facilitate effective interventions, such as establishing a cohesive network of stone elements to preserve and enhance the architectural and natural heritage. The establishment of such a network has the potential to generate a renewed interest in the landscape, thereby promoting a sustainable and conscious approach that recognises and values each component. This, in turn, contributes to the rebirth and balanced use of the territory.
