The senatus consultum de sumptibus gladiatorum is an epigraphic source that records a prima sententia of the Roman Senate. The speech was given in response to an oratio principum by Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Commodus that contained a proposal to introduce price limitations and other controls on gladiatorial games, with the aim of containing the costs of such displays and limit abuses committed by the lanistae in the trade of gladiators. The document can be dated to 177 CE or, at the latest, the beginning of 178 CE.
