This chapter systematically reviews how identity milestones for sexually and gender diverse individuals vary across five generations: Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z. This analysis highlights how sociohistorical contexts and societal attitudes have influenced the timing and experiences of identity milestones, such as self-awareness, coming out, and participation in LGBTQ+ communities. This study finds a trend of decreasing ages for the realization and acceptance of diverse sexual and gender identities among younger generations. The Silent Generation typically encountered milestones later in life compared to Millennials and Generation Z, who benefit from a more inclusive and supportive environment. This generational shift underscores the impact of increased visibility, equal rights, and societal acceptance on the identity development of LGBTQ+ individuals. This review also emphasizes the role of digital platforms in shaping the identity milestones of Generation Z, providing new avenues for self-expression and community-building.

Abstract
This review also emphasizes the role of digital platforms in shaping the identity milestones of Generation Z, providing new avenues for self-expression and community-building.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
